General Summary: The individual in this position is responsible for all the functions and activities related to the preauthorization process for imaging studies from initiation or request through approval or denial of the request, insurance verification and financial counseling. The person in this position supervises and directs the maintenance and monitoring of any potential breaches to the patient health record.  The person in this position is responsible to perform all functions in accordance with MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's (MGUH) philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Required Education and Training: Associate's Degree      

Required Experience:   At least three years experience in a medical/clinical office required.  Previous experience with preauthorization or pre certification process preferred.  Working knowledge of IDX / GE Centricity Business preferred.  Previous experience with an electronic health record system desired, especially GE Centricity Clinical or Aria.   Working knowledge of managed care, HMO, PPO requirements of imaging studies requiring preauthorization and/or referrals. Working knowledge of IDX / GE Centricity Business preferred.  Previous experience with an electronic health record system desired, especially GE Centricity EHR or Aria.  Ability to perform in a high pressure environment.  Ability to organize and prioritize work. Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills, and good telephone etiquette. Knowledge of medical terminology.  Effective oral and written communication skills.  Ability to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of different individuals
