BREAST ONCOLOGY

Nurse Practitioner, Breast Oncology

Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center was established in 1971. Lombardi was initially designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in 1974 and achieved NCI comprehensive status in 1990. The mission of Lombardi is to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer through innovative basic science, clinical research, patient care, community outreach, and the training of cancer specialists of the future

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Functions as a Nurse Practitioner to provide comprehensive care to a designated patient population.  Performs physical and psychological assessments, diagnosis and treatment of episodic illnesses in collaboration with physicians; performs diagnostic procedures, oversees the administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood products and supportive therapies, coordinates and communicates all aspects of care with patients/family and the health care team. These functions are performed in accordance with Medstar Georgetown's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

 

EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED:  Nurse Practitioner with a Master's Degree in Nursing

 

LICENSURE AND OR CERTIFICATION:   State license in DC or MD or VA as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner.  CPR certification. 

 

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years experience in Hematology/Oncology,  with a minimum of 2 years experience in an acute care facility.  Experience in a university teaching hospital preferred.

 

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients/families as well as staff and physicians; excellent clinical knowledge base in Oncology Demonstrates strong leadership skills and the ability to function independently.
