**New Graduate Nurse Residency Program Starting Summer 2018**

Summer 2018 New Graduate Nurse Residents

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, the First Magnet Hospital in Washington, D.C., welcomes nursing students from around the nation to apply for our New Graduate Nurse Residency. The selection process for the Nurse Residency is highly competitive, requiring candidates to have a minimum of a 3.2 (out of 4.0) cumulative GPA.

Applications for the Summer 2018 Nurse Residency Program will be accepted on an on-going basis, until 8:00am on December 18th (based on position availability). The New Graduate Nurse Residency, commencing late Summer 2018, is intended for Spring/Summer 2018 graduates from accredited BSN programs.

If you are interested in applying for the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program, please complete the attached online application. When you submit your online application, please be sure to include your current, cumulative GPA in your resume or cover letter. If you have a strong interest in a specific specialty area, please state your desired specialty in your cover letter.

Following receipt of your online application, we will send you an online Nursing Career Battery test. If you do not receive an email to complete the Nursing Career Battery within 3 business days, please contact the Nurse Recruitment Team. Failure to complete the Nursing Career Battery will eliminate you from the applicant pool. After you have completed both your online application and Nursing Career Battery, Nurse Recruitment and Retention will contact you if you are selected to attend the New Graduate Nurse Resident Interview Day.

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Nurse Residents selected to move forward in the application process will be interviewed at our New Graduate Nurse Resident Interview Day, which will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018, from 9:00am to 6:00pm. This is an Invitation ONLY event. Invitations to attend this event will be extended based on availability and preliminary screening of the online application and the Nursing Career Battery (see below).

If you are extended an invitation to participate in our New Graduate Nurse Resident Interview Day, you will be required to submit the following information in one complete packet by January 12, 2018:

· Current resume

· Current official transcript (reflecting a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or greater)

· Two clinical faculty reference letters (on official university letterhead) or two faculty clinical references on the MGUH forms provided

· Copy of current signed CPR card, both front and back

· Employer reference (if you have worked as a Nurse Technician/Extern/CNA/Care Partner)

Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The incumbent in this position works under the direction of the Registered Nurse and is responsible for the provision of direct nursing care in accordance with the established plan of care. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduation from an accredited Baccalaureate School of Nursing.

LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION: Must have taken the NCLEX Examination prior to their start date. BLS required (American Heart Association only).

EXPERIENCE: Previous experience as a nursing assistant or nurse tech desired. Satisfactory references from the school of nursing attended.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to perform nursing technologies and provide direct nursing care to patients. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to set priorities and work under stress.
