General Description: As a Hospitalist, provide inpatient internal medicine care within the hospital setting, including admitting patients, performing physical exams, ordering tests, diagnosing, performing hospital rounds and planning for discharge. Participate in call schedule. Facilitate coordination and development of a comprehensive and individual plan of care in collaboration with patient, family and multidisciplinary team. Prepare written prescription orders, medications and controlled substances under MD and federal rules, regulations and law. Coordinate family education with nursing staff, ancillary staff and other resources. Follow all established HIMS policies for maintenance and signing of medical records. Submit timely and complete patient bills. Receive inpatient referrals from Primary Care Center and admit from Emergency Department. Maintain daily caseload of 10+ hospital inpatients. Contribute to the achievement of department goals and adhere to policies, procedures, quality and safety standards. Comply with government and accreditation regulations. As an Assistant Program Director, provide oversight of group practice administration. Collaborate with the Director in assessing team and program needs and providing leadership to ensure a balanced working environment. Develop the hospitalist program services and provide guidance in areas including policies, personnel, services, marketing, quality assurance monitoring, and education. Facilitate efficient and effective communication and administration between providers, physician extenders, hospital staff, other providers. Responsible for the recruitment of hospitalists and physician extenders for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. Job based at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, MD. Requires travel to work at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center in Olney, MD and MedStar St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, MD.

 

Position requires MD degree or foreign equivalent plus three years of ABIM-recognized internal medicine residency, valid Maryland medical license, and American Board certification (or eligibility) in Internal Medicine. Position requires rotating schedule on day, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts and on-call duties. No calls.
