General Pediatric and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology – C5-3

C5-3 is a 7 bed General Pediatric and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit. It is one of the most recently renovated units at MedStar Georgetown. All the rooms are private rooms which have been constructed to provide a more comfortable environment for our patients and their families, which include sleeper sofas and refrigerators. Clinical Nurses on C5-3 provide expert care for both our general pediatric patients and our pediatric oncology patients. C5-3 was recognized for attaining 4 years without any CLABSIs (Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections.)

Experience:

-          Required: One year of acute nursing experience.

-          Preferred: Experience with Pediatric Oncology patients is an asset.

Education:

-          BSN Required.

Schedule:

-          12-hour shifts

-          Self-scheduling, 6-week schedules

-          Full-time Night Shift or Rotating Shift (maximum 50% nights and 50% weekends)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care using the nursing process. These functions are performed in accordance with the District of Columbia Nurse Practice Act and all other applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. LICENSURE AND OR CERTIFICATION: Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse; current Basic Life Support (BLS). EXPERIENCE: To meet unit criteria. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to perform the nursing technologies.  Effective verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to set priorities and work under stress.
