Stroke Center Unit, C6-1

Neurotelemetry & Stroke Unit – C6-1

C6-1 is a collaborative Intermediate Care Unit certified by The Joint Commission as a primary stroke center, setting the hospital's treatment of stroke patients among the best in the nation. C6-1 is one of MedStar Georgetown's three inpatient Neurological/Neurosurgical Units which are part of our nationally renowned Neurosciences Center of Excellence. The patient population served on C6-1 is primarily Ischemic Stroke Patients, Post-acute Hemorrhagic Stroke Patients, EMU (Continuous EEG Monitoring) patients and other Neurosurgery and Neurology patients requiring telemetry monitoring.


-          Required: One year of hospital-based nursing experience. Telemetry experience preferred.

-          Preferred: Experience with Neuro/Stoke patients is an asset.


-          BSN Preferred. Will consider candidates enrolled in a BSN program.


-          12-hour shifts

-          Self-scheduling, 6-week schedules

-          Rotating Shift (maximum 50% nights and 50% weekends) with opportunity for fixed shift based on availability

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care using the nursing process. These functions are performed in accordance with the District of Columbia Nurse Practice Act and all other applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. LICENSURE AND OR CERTIFICATION: Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse; current Basic Life Support (BLS). EXPERIENCE: To meet unit criteria. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to perform the nursing technologies.  Effective verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to set priorities and work under stress.
