Medical Telemetry – 5 Bles

5 Bles is a 20 Bed Medical Telemetry unit designed to provide specialized care for patients who are in need of continuous cardiac monitoring and complex medical nursing care. Nurses provide care for a diverse patient population with a wide range of healthcare requirements. Our entire staff is committed to the MedStar Georgetown mission of cura personalis, caring for the whole person.  The 5 Bles nurses are supported with educational and specialty certification training opportunities. Professional development initiatives and leadership support empower nurses to become active and respected participants within the inter-professional team that provides evidence based, compassionate care to our patients.

Representatives from 5 Bles also led the implementation of the Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) Program. After a pilot on two medical units, it was expanded throughout the Division of Nursing.  


-          Two years of Medical/Surgical nursing experience required



-          BSN Preferred - will consider experienced candidates enrolled in a BSN program

-          Certification is highly desirable



-          Three 12-hour shifts

-          Self-scheduling, 6-week schedules

-          Full-time Night Shift or Rotating Shifts available (maximum of 50% nights and 50% weekends)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care using the nursing process. These functions are performed in accordance with the District of Columbia Nurse Practice Act and all other applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. LICENSURE AND OR CERTIFICATION: Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse; current Basic Life Support (BLS). EXPERIENCE: To meet unit criteria. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to perform the nursing technologies.  Effective verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to set priorities and work under stress.
