Clinical Nurse I

Neurosciences ICU, C6-3

Neuroscience ICU – C6-3  

C6-3 is a 19 bed adult Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit.  It is one of the few dedicated Neurosciences ICUs in Washington, DC. Clinical Nurses on C6-3 provide expert care for critically ill patients who have suffered stroke (hemorrhagic/ischemic), subarachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, complex spine and brain surgeries. Other common neurological diagnoses include meningitis, Guillain Barre syndrome and viral, infectious or autoimmune processes. In the past, C6-3 has been awarded both the Beacon Award for Nursing Excellence and the Nurse-Family Collaboration Award by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.


-          Required: Two years of hospital-based critical care (ICU) nursing experience.

-          Preferred: Experience with Neurosurgical/Neurological patients is an asset.


-          BSN Preferred. Will consider candidates enrolled in a BSN program.


-          12-hour shifts

-          Self-scheduling, 6-week schedules

-          Full-time Night Shift or Rotating Shift (maximum 50% nights and 50% weekends)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care using the nursing process. These functions are performed in accordance with the District of Columbia Nurse Practice Act and all other applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. LICENSURE AND OR CERTIFICATION: Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse; current Basic Life Support (BLS). EXPERIENCE: To meet unit criteria. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to perform the nursing technologies.  Effective verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to set priorities and work under stress.
