Clinical Manager, Intermediate Thoracic Medical-Surgical Unit - C4-1


UNIT DESCRIPTION: C4-1 is a 19-bed adult Thoracic Medical-Surgical Intermediate Care Unit.  Clinical Nurses on C4-1 provide expert care for acutely ill patients who have a diverse range of medical and surgical diagnoses.  We provide care to patients after complex open and minimally invasive thoracic surgeries of the lung and esophagus.  Medical diagnoses include end-stage renal disease, end-stage liver failure, chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, sepsis, CHF, COPD, and GI bleeds.  All beds are equipped to provide continuous cardiac and pulse oximetry monitoring. 


GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The incumbent in this position is a Department Head who has administrative authority and responsibility for the management and direction of the operational, personnel and financial activities of the Unit/Department.  These functions are coordinated with Hospital Administration, Department Heads, Medical Staff and others and are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.


EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.  Master's degree in Nursing preferred, and/or equivalent in experience and/or continuing education.


LICENSURE AND OR CERTIFICATION: Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse.


EXPERIENCE:  A minimum of four years experience preferred to include: one year of related clinical experience and a minimum of two years progressive supervisory/management experience in an acute care facility.  Experience in a University Teaching Hospital preferred.


SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; expert knowledge of nursing principles, practices and skills; expertise in clinical area for which application is made.  Demonstrates strong leadership skills and the ability to function independently.
