The MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute (MGTI) is seeking a Clinical Lead for the Advance Practitioner Coordinators in our rapidly expanding multi-organ transplant program. 

MGTI is a proud member of MedStar Health, the premier health system in the Mid-Atlantic region and one of the nation's leaders in solid organ transplants. MGTI associates primarily practice at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

The MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute (MGTI) is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) to lead our expanding acute care inpatient service.


Position Summary: Responsible for directing and evaluating the Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Physician Assistant (PA) staff of the Transplant inpatient unit. Acts as the primary resource for NP's/PA's daily functions. Functions to coordinate and formalize a multi-disciplinary structure and process that assures accountability for specific patient care outcomes through assessment, planning, coordination and referral of services within specific time frames.  Collaborates with the multi­-disciplinary team, utilizing clinical outcome data to support innovative and cost-effective changes to practice and to the health care system. The functions of expert practice, consultation, professional development, research and leadership are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations  of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. Functions as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the Department of Transplant Surgery to provide comprehensive care to a designated patient population.  Coordinates and communicates all aspects of care with patient/family and the health care team. Coordinates activities with the Attending Physician as assigned.  Assists in communications with referring physicians and patients; triages patients and patient issues, and assures monitoring and confirmation of service delivery and evaluation of health care services for patients and patient families.


Required Education and Training: Bachelors degree required. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program or Physician Assistant Program. State license in DC or MD or VA as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.  CPR certification and certification in ACLS and PALS required.


Required Experience: Four years of nursing or physician assistant experience inclusive of at least one year of directly-related experience in transplant. 1 years of supervisory experience required.   Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice and medical care to give and evaluate patients.  Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.  Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.  Skill in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.  Ability to maintain and control standards.  Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
