Clinical Director, Surgical Services

MedStar Georgetown is currently seeking an experienced nurse leader for our Clinical Director, Surgical Services position. This leader would oversee the following inpatient postoperative surgical departments:

-          Adult Transplant Unit – 6 Bles

-          ENT and General Surgery Unit – 7 Bles

-          Thoracic Medical/Surgical Intermediate Care Unit – C4-1

-          Vascular Medical/Surgical Intermediate Care Unit – 4 East

-          Surgical Specialties Unit – 6 Main

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The incumbent in this position is a Department Leader who assumes 24 hour administrative authority and responsibility for the management and direction of the operational, personnel and financial activities of a specified division, unit, or procedural area. These functions are coordinated with the Executive Staff, Hospital Leadership, Medical Staff and others and are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's mission, vision, and core values.

EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Master's degree in Nursing or related subject required (if the master's degree is not in nursing, then the baccalaureate degree must be in nursing).

LICENSURE AND OR CERTIFICATION: Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse. Certification in specialty or related specialty.

EXPERIENCE:  A minimum of ten years experience preferred to include: one year of related clinical experience and a minimum of five years progressive supervisory/management experience in an acute care facility.  Experience in a University Teaching Hospital preferred.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; expert knowledge of nursing principles, practices and skills; expertise in clinical area for which application is made. Demonstrates strong leadership skills and the ability to function independently. Competent in basic computer skills.  Member of a recognized National Nursing Organization.
