Medical-Surgical Intermediate Care Unit - 2 North

BRAND NEW Intermediate Care Unit – 2 North

Join the Magnet® Nursing Team on our state of the art new unit!

2 North is a newly renovated 18 bed adult Intermediate Care Unit with all private rooms. All of the rooms on 2 North are outfitted with the latest GE beside physiological equipment to provide continuous cardiac and pulse oximetry monitoring.

Clinical Nurses on 2 North will utilize innovative best practice processes to provide expert care for acutely ill patients who have a diverse range of medical and surgical diagnoses. The Clinical Nurses on 2North are the hospital CAPD champions. Other diagnoses seen include end-stage renal disease, end-stage liver failure, chest pain, cardiac arrhythmias, sepsis, CHF, COPD, and GI bleeds.

We are looking for candidates with:

- One to Two years of medical-surgical or intermediate care experience.

-  BSN preferred; will consider experienced nurses enrolled in BSN program.

-  Experience with cardiac rhythm interpretation preferred but will train.


- Three 12 hour shifts per week

- Six week schedules; Self-scheduling

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing competent professional nursing care using the nursing process. These functions are performed in accordance with the District of Columbia Nurse Practice Act and all other applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. LICENSURE AND OR CERTIFICATION: Current D.C. license as a Registered Professional Nurse; current Basic Life Support (BLS). EXPERIENCE: To meet unit criteria. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to perform the nursing technologies. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to set priorities and work under stress.
